Fire fighters are doing "really well" in the Central Oregon District with most of the recent lightning-sparked fires now contained at an acre or less. The exceptions are the Jack Knife Fire, some 10 miles southeast of Grass Valley at aproximately 8,000 acres, The Murderer's Creek Fire, about 10 miles south of Dayville, at aproximately 1500 acres and Incident 234 two miles southwest of Maupin at around 600 acres. With the Fourth of July Holiday Weekend coming up Lisa Clark of Central Oregon Dispatch reminds those recreating in the area forests to be extremely cautious with fire and stresses that fireworks of any kind are prohibited anywhere federal forest lands.
