Former Portland Trailblazer Jerome Kersey dead at 52

The NBA world is mourning the loss of former Portland Trail Blazers forward Jerome Kersey.  Multiple outlets are reporting Kersey died suddenly on Wednesday at the age of 52.  Kersey was drafted in the second round by Portland in 1984.  He spent his first 11 seasons with the Blazers, helping them reach the NBA Finals in 1990 and 1992.  Kersey averaged 10.3 points and 5.5 rebounds over his 17-year career with several clubs.  He retired from the NBA in 2001.

 

 

In October, Kersey joined KBND's Morning News during a Central Oregon Blazers event.  

Most recently, Kersey served as Director of Alumni Relations for the team. 

Governor Kitzhaber has announced his resignation effective February 18, 2015

BREAKING NEWS: Governor Kitzhaber has announced his resignation as governor of the state of Oregon. 

In a press release he issued at noon, the governor stated, "It is not in my nature to walk away from a job I have undertaken – it is to stand and fight for the cause. For that reason I apologize to all those people who gave of their faith, time, energy and resources to elect me to a fourth term last year and who have supported me over the past three decades."

The person next in line to be governor is Oregon Secretary of State Kate Brown. She announced on Wednesday after being called back to Oregon from Washington D.C. by the governor that she and her staff are ready to step in.

Both Senate President Peter Courtney and House Speaker Tina Kotek have asked 
Kitzhaber to step down in recent days.
