Oregon Zoo Hedgehog Says Early Spring

So much for Punxsutawney Phil ... zoo curators at the Oregon Zoo in Portland say their hedgehog is rooting for an early spring.

Punxsutawney Phil, the famous weather-predicting groundhog, called for six more weeks of winter. But Whiskers J., the Oregon Zoo African pygmy hedgehog, did not see his shadow this morning.

Crowds gathered at the zoo this morning, some holding signs that said "Hedgehogs Rule!"

And so far, Oregon Zoo hedgehogs are more correct than Punxsutawney Phil -- they're correct 40 percent of the time, compared to Phil's 39 percent likelihood of being correct.

Their prediction last year, by hedgehog Mayzie, did end up being correct. That was for six more weeks of winter.
