High Winds Blamed For Fire, Hazards

CENTRAL OREGON -- Redmond Fire crews responded early this morning to a power line fire, near Cline Falls Road and White Rock Loop, between Eagle Crest and Tumalo. Just after 4 a.m., a nearby resident called 911, reporting flames were spreading to a tree, 20' from a house.  When crews arrived, they say it appeared high winds caused the tree to fall into the line, catching fire.  Pacific Power responded with firefighters and shut off electricity to the area.  Crews extinguished the fire before it could spread to nearby buildings.

Just after 7 a.m., crews were dispatched to a report of a brush fire on Gerking Market Rd., near Highway 20, outside of Tumalo.  A passerby noticed an orange glow, then flames.  Througout the morning, road crews have responded to reports of downed trees and missing street signs, due to high winds.

Central Oregon is under a High Wind Advisory until 11 p.m., with gusts peaking this afternoon.   Winds are expected from the south, 35-45 MPH, with gusts up to 65 MPH.  The National Weather Service says the area could see property damage from downed trees and power lines, and driving could be hazardous, especially for high-profile vehicles.
