Bend-La Pine Schools Finalize Boundary Changes

BEND, OR -- After four months, nine meetings and more than 600 public comments, the Bend La Pine School District has settled on new boundaries.  Superintendent Ron Wilkinson accepted the recommended maps from a 30-member committee, yesterday, making two minor changes.

The first adjustment allows students in the Mid Town area (between the Deschutes River, Greenwood, Olney, and NE 12th streets) to attend Bend Senior High, instead of the committee's recommendation of Mountain View High School.  And, those in the Old Bend downtown area (between the river, the Parkway and Arizona and Greenwood streets) will continue to attend W.E. Miller Elementary and Cascade Middle schools.

Wilkinson also accepted the committee's recommendation that next year's 5th, 8th, 11th and 12th grade students be allowed to remain at their current school, if they wish.  Boundary changes were necessary due to current overcrowding, and the opening of a new elementary and middle school, next fall.

The district released the final version of the school boundary map, earlier today.  Click HERE to read the full statement from Superintendent Wilkinson.
