New Bend-La Pine Elementary School Continues Naming Discussion

BEND, OR  -- District officials are considering another name for Bend's newest elementary school. The new elementary school, located south of Reed Market Road and west of American Lane in Bend, has been the center of ongoing naming discussions. Already three names are being considered: Amelia Earhart, Silver Rail and Homestead.

The new name, Horse Ridge Elementary, will be presented to the School Board at a meeting on Tuesday. The public is invited to give input on all of the name choices during the 6:15 p.m. public hearing.

The "finalist names" come out of a pool of 300 survey submissions, four meetings for an elementary school naming committee and hours of research. School officials are hoping the final name will reflect outstanding community members or historical and geopolitical landmarks in the community.

The school is slated to open in the fall.
