The percentage of kids who are qualified for the free and reduced lunch program in Bend La Pine Schools has jumped from 35 to 50% in just a few years. Schools Superintendent Ron Wilkinson says over the summer they will take care of those kids who received daily meals during the school year with their Summer Lunch Program. "There are several different locations around the community in terms of the lunch program. And then there's always a little bit of a learning side with it with books and so forth available, and so its a great program and does continue and we certainly encourage our students to take advantage of that." The program is open to any kids 18 and younger and there is no registration or fee. Funding for the program is provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
