Bicyclist Killed In Terrebonne-Area Accident

TERREBONNE, OR -- A 32-year-old Seattle woman died in a bicycle accident south of Crooked River Ranch, Wednesday morning. Several drivers reported seeing a female bike rider who appeared unconscious on the side of Lower Bridge Way, near the Borden Beck Wildlife Preserve.

When deputies and medics arrived, just before noon, they determined Katie Jenks had sustained a fatal injury when her bike went off the westbound shoulder of the road. There were no witnesses and investigators say there may have been a mechanical problem with the bike. Jenks was not wearing a helmet or other protective gear at the time.

Alcohol, drugs or other distractions are not believed to have been factors. The investigation is ongoing, and any potential witnesses are asked to call the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office at 541-693-6911.
