Redmond Couple Hurt In Snowy La Pine Crash

LA PINE, OR -- Two people were hurt in a crash near La Pine, early Saturday morning. According to the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, a Redmond couple was northbound on Highway 97 when the pickup and horse trailer lost control on snowy roads and slid on to a guardrail.

While outside assessing the damage, 59-year-old Mary Hockett was struck by another car that was unable to stop in the slick conditions; a third vehicle then rear-ended the car. She was trapped between the car and guardrail. An off-duty Redmond medic stopped to provide critical aid to the woman; she and was later taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Medics also transported 69-year-old Terry Hockett to St. Charles Bend; he suffered non-life threatening injuries.
