Madras Standoff Ends With Arrest

MADRAS, OR -- A 45-year-old man faces multiple charges after a Thursday afternoon stand-off at a downtown Madras apartment. Police first responded to a report of a shot fired inside the SW Third Street building, at about 1:10 p.m. When officers arrived, Jonathan Blankenship was outside, visibly agitated; he was hitting walls and appeared to be talking to himself. Officials say he then went into his apartment, closed the door and refused commands to come out.

Due to the report of a gun, streets in the area were closed and the Central Oregon Emergency Response team was activated. After about 90 minutes, Blankenship came out and was arrested without incident for Disorderly Conduct and Interfering with a police officer.

They did not find any evidence of a gun at the scene.
