BEND, OR -- A power outage impacted more than 5,200 Pacific Power customers in Downtown Bend, midday Monday. Pacific Power says the outage started at about 11:15 a.m. when a bird that pecked its way through the housing surrounding a transformer. It caused a short and the bird was killed.
Firefighters responded to several calls related to the outage, including a man trapped in an elevator at the Doubletree Hotel on Franklin. Crews lowered a ladder through the trap door in the elevator ceiling and he climbed out unhurt.
Power was restored after about 2.5 hours.
