Downtown Workers Help Nab Rdm Theft Suspect

REDMOND, OR -- Redmond Police say help from the public helped them capture theft suspects, Monday morning. Officers were first called to Satterlee Jewelry just before 11:30 a.m., after staff confronted a man in a restricted area. He left with two others, prior to police arrival, but officers caught up with the group near 5th and Antler.

When approached by police, one suspect took off on a bike. But, investigators say, he was caught in the alley behind Kobold Brewing with help from employees at three downtown businesses. Other officers chased the other two people who also ran, and they were eventually contacted, although not arrested. Police say 28-year-old Brett Yahtin, of Redmond, faces numerous charges, including Resisting Arrest, Meth Possession and Theft.

A witness told investigators the suspects tried to hide a backpack in nearby landscaping. Inside, officers found two necklaces and other jewelry, some of which is confirmed stolen from Satterlee. Investigators are working to determine whether other recovered items were also stolen (pictured below), including two bicycles.
