Prescribed Burns Planned for This Week

SISTERS, OR -- Prescribed burn season opens today, in the Deschutes National Forest. If conditions remain favorable, firefighters will ignite two burns Thursday.

The first is a 62-acre project, three miles southwest of Sisters. The other is a 350-acre unit about 25 miles southeast of La Pine.

On Friday, they plan to conduct a 286-acre burn south of Bend, near Lost Tracks Golf Course. Forest Service officials say that area, off China Hat Road, has a significant amount of trash. An inmate work crew will clean out the trash, Thursday, and Bend Towing is hauling off large abandoned campers.

All burn operations are scheduled to begin around 10 a.m.
