Deschutes County Hears Budget Requests

BEND, OR -- Deschutes County's Budget Committee continues discussions Wednesday, with various departments and agencies laying out their funding requests. The week-long public hearing began Tuesday, with the County Clerk, Assessor and others.

Wednesday afternoon, District Attorney John Hummel is expected to present his request, including a $1.1 million budget increase to hire four new prosecutors and eight other support staff. He says his office has been short-staffed for years, which has led to low morale and high turnover.

The 9-1-1 Service District and Sheriff are scheduled for tomorrow. Budget hearings take place at the County Services Building, are open to the public and continue through Friday.
