Young Suspect Hides in Trash To Evade Bend PD

BEND, OR -- A boy hopped inside what turned out to be a very stinky trash can, in an attempt to elude capture by a Bend Police officer, Sunday. The boy's quick thinking was caught on a video posted by Zach Pierce on YouTube. In the video, the suspect is seen closing the lid on himself. Pierce notes the trash can "reeks" at the time. An officer is then seen in pursuit. He approaches girls nearby and is heard saying, "Hey, girls! which way did that kid run?" They told him they didn't see a kid, and the search continues.

Pierce tells Daily Mail the trash can was full of dirty diapers and used cat litter, and the boy stayed inside for about 30 minutes in 90-degree heat.

Bend Police tells KBND News the boy was one of four kids who allegedly stole from WalMart. When they were confronted by officers at the store, they scattered, which is when the boy appears to have found his hiding spot. Police say the four suspects were eventually caught, cited and turned over to a juvenile facility.
