Plane Crashes Near Madras Airport

MADRAS, OR -- A small plane crash-landed on its way in to the Madras Airport, Monday afternoon. The Cessna, flown by a student-pilot and instructor, took off from the Sisters Airport with one additional passenger. Its engine failed about ¾ of a mile from the Madras runway, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

The aircraft landed nose first, in an embankment on the north side of Birch Lane, and the three people on board suffered only minor injuries. Fire crews managed a small fuel leak and took the student-pilot and passenger to St. Charles Madras, to get checked out.
