Bend Parks & Rec Expands After School Program

BEND, OR -- Bend Parks and Recreation is looking for dozens of new workers for its growing after school program. "Due to the time change at school - with the new elementary school time change, we have to hire 30 new Kids Inc. positions," Recreation Services Manager Sue Boettner tells KBND News, "We've already basically hired 70 or so people in past years, and so we have to add 30 more to that." To do that the district will host a job fair, Thursday afternoon.

Those new employees will serve as Youth Recreation Leader. There are two positions; either year-round or just during the school year. "The job entails working with kids in kindergarten through fifth grade. They do activities, art, crafts, games, basically just provide some fun for after school." Both are part time, but Boettner says there are perks to entice prospective applicants in a tight labor market, "Both of the Kids Inc positions may include paid medical and dental insurance, free attendance for the employee's child to attend the Kids Inc program; we're adding quarterly retention bonuses this year, and you'd get a Recreation Facilities pass, which you can use at Juniper, the Pavilion, and the new Larkspur Center, when it opens; and get discounts on our recreation programs."

Thursday's job fair is at the Park District's office at Riverbend Park, 3-6 p.m.
