Person of Interest Sought in Bend Courthouse Threat

BEND, OR -- A suspicious package was found on the Bend Courthouse steps this morning. Deschutes County Sheriff's Office Sergeant William Bailey says a 9-1-1 call came in around 7:15 am, at which time the Courthouse and District Attorney's Offices were evacuated, and road closures were put into place around the area. "The road closures will remain in place as long as they need to to ensure the safety of the public and until we can check the Courthouse and the surrounding area for any devices."

The Sheriff's Office is seeking a man in connection with the package that was found near the entrance to the Courthouse. Streets are still blocked off in Downtown Bend. Bailey says, "It's not affecting everything down here, really just the Courthouse. I've heard that there are other businesses down here that have closed, or self-evacuated."

UPDATE: The Deschutes County Sheriff's Office has rendered the package found on the Courthouse steps this morning safe, and they believe it was a hoax. They are still seeking the person of interest who delivered it.
