PORTLAND, OR -- A sports medicine doctor says concussions are becoming all too common in youth soccer. Oregon Health and Science University’s Doctor Jim Chesnutt says girls are much more likely to get a concussion than boys playing soccer. He says in younger players, the recovery time from a concussion is much longer. Dr. Chesnutt says OHSU and others are working on return to play and return to school guidelines is a child suffers a concussion. He says rule changes are needed to focus more on safety and less on aggressive play.
