BEND, OR -- This week the Deschutes Forest will start burning piles in the Newberry Volcanic Monument. Jean Nelson-Dean at the forest says the 142 acre pile burning operation is expected to continue for several weeks. The piles will be burned near East and Paulina Lakes and will be visible from the caldera as well as Highway 97.
