ONTARIO, OR -- Two kayaks contaminated with quagga mussels...an invasive species...were stopped before they launched in the Deschutes River. Central Oregon Daily reports Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife technicians intercepted and decontaminated the kayaks at a boat inspection station near Ontario. Martyne Ressman with ODF&W says inspectors found quagga mussel shell debris. She says had the layaks launched mussel tissue from the shells would have been shed and could have led to quagga mussels getting into the Deschutes River.
