Thursday Morning Accident Closes Franklin Avenue Underpass

BEND, OR -- Franklin Avenue was closed at the underpass for more than 2-hours yesterday. At about 9:00 a.m. Thursday after a semi towing an excavator hit two bridges. Police say 46 year old John Marsden IV, of Bend, was traveling east on Franklin Avenue when the main boom on the excavator hit both the Parkway and Railroad Bridges.  Police say debris fell from the bridges onto the roadway, however no other vehicles were involved or hit.  Bend Public Works assisted in closing Franklin Avenue at the underpass. ODOT and Burlington Northern Rail sent engineers to inspect the bridges. Franklin Avenue was re-opened just before 11-30 yesterday morning. The driver was not cited.
