Bend fire officials say it could have been worse.  The Mom and her three young children barely escaped the fire.

The smoke alarm battery was dead and the Mom, 25 year old Stephanie Smith woke up when she heard the sound of breaking glass.

It happened in SW Bend on Alderwood Circle -- just south of Reed Market Road.

Upon investigation, the cause of the fire was an iguana enclosure of plastic mesh located too close to the wood stove.  It caught fire.

The home and it's contents were a total loss.
