Half-million Dollars Awarded In Lawsuit Against Portland Police

(Portland, OR)  --  A man who claimed he was beaten and Tasered by three Portland police officers is being awarded more than a half-million dollars by a jury.  Thirty-nine-year-old Jason Cox of Portland filed a lawsuit against the Police Bureau in April 2013, claiming negligence and assault against the officers when he was being arrested for DUII in 2011.  Mayor Charlie Hales says he doesn't agree with the jury's verdict, but respects the legal process.  Hales says the Police Bureau has changed its use-of-force policies and now puts more emphasis in its training practices on "de-escalation."
