Final Vote Scheduled On Mayor's Urban-renewal Plan

(Portland, OR)  --  The Portland City Council will vote soon on whether to approve a plan by Mayor Charlie Hales to reorganize the city's urban renewal districts.  The proposal would direct more property tax revenue to schools and local governments and would allow more money to be spent on newer redevelopment projects in the South Waterfront and inner eastside.  Hales calls the plan "the first comprehensive reform of urban renewal in the history of urban renewal."  The Council is slated to vote on the entire package on March 25th.
