Suspect Jumps Into Willamette River To Evade Police

(Portland, OR)  --  A man is facing charges after jumping into the Willamette River to escape police.  Authorities say the man was spotted yesterday morning, apparently trying to steal wire from an electrical box on Southeast Water Avenue near the Tillikum Crossing bridge.  Police say the man was told he was under arrest, then he ran toward the river and jumped in.  The man was later apprehended when found hiding in bushes along the bank of the river, and was taken to a hospital to ensure he wasn't hypothermic.
