(Portland, OR) -- Effective immediately, St. Mary's Academy in Portland has a new employment policy. The school's board has voted unanimously to add "sexual orientation" to its equal employment opportunity policy, following controversy over the school withdrawing a job offer it made to a woman who's gay. School president Christina Friedhoff says St. Mary's, an all-girl Catholic private school, is a "diverse community that welcomes and includes gay and lesbian students, faculty, alumnae, parents and friends." "Willamette Week" quoted Lauren Brown as saying the school withdrew its offer to hire her as a school counselor after she told an administrator she's gay.
