(Olympia, WA) -- The State Fire Marshal says Washington set a record this year by responding to 30 wildfires, well above the previous record of 17. Officials say wildfires across the state scorched more than one-million acres. The largest of those fires was the North Star fire in Okanogan [[ OH-kuh-NOG-un ]] County, which burned more than 218-thousand acres. The Northwest Interagency Coordination Center says the fires destroyed a total of 307 primary residences and 21 commercial buildings.
