Green River Killer Transferred Back To Washington

(Walla Walla, WA)  --  The man known as the "Green River Killer" is back in the Walla Walla penitentiary after a controversial transfer to a prison in Colorado.  Gary Ridgway was moved in May to the federal penitentiary in Florence, Colorado, but the move set off criticism from the families of Ridgway's victims and the investigators who worked on the case.  Ridgway is serving life without parole for the murders of 49 women over 20 years.  The Washington Department of Corrections said moving Ridgway to Colorado would have saved money and would have given him an opportunity to live in the general prison population, rather than in solitary confinement.
