Washington Distracted-driving Emphasis Patrol Underway

(Olympia, WA)  --  The Washington State Patrol is engaged in a statewide emphasis patrol that's targeting distracted drivers through April 14th.  The agency says troopers pulled over more than 18-thousand people in 2015 for talking on cell phones and more than four-thousand for texting while driving.  Doctor Beth Ebel, with Harborview Medical Center's Injury Prevention and Resource Center, told the Everett "Herald" studies show that texting while driving increases crash risk by 23 times.  She says that's equivalent to a blood-alcohol level of point-19, which is more than twice the legal limit in Washington.
