Bat-killing Disease Reaches Washington

(Lynnwood, WA)  --  A dead bat examined by a Lynnwood veterinarian is the first known case in Washington of white-nose syndrome.  The fungal infection, which isn't harmful to humans or other animals, can be devastating to bat populations.  Veterinarian John Huckabee told the Everett "Herald" he sent the bat to the U.S. Geological Survey's National Wildlife Health Center, which confirmed the presence of white-nose syndrome.  Huckabee says anyone who finds a sick or dead bat is asked to call the Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife's Wildlife Health Hotline at 800-606-8768.
