(Salem, OR) -- The state Department of Environmental Quality will have a new interim director. Governor Kate Brown has appointed Pete Shepherd, who served as Deputy Attorney General for the Oregon Department of Justice. He'll temporarily replace former DEQ director Dick Pederson, who resigned in March for health reasons. Brown says Shepherd's appointment is part of the new Clean Air Oregon program, which aims to provide greater government accountability and encourage the DEQ to work with companies on ways to prevent pollution.
