(Portland, OR) -- A man who was accused of murder in Gresham is awaiting sentencing, after changing his plea just days before his trial. Thirty-year-old Wallace Theodore Simpson pleaded no contest yesterday to first-degree manslaughter in the death of 27-year-old Kevin Vernado last August. Two other people were wounded, and Simpson also pleaded no contest to charges of assault and attempted murder. Sentencing is scheduled for April 13th.
