Dorn: High Court Should Consider Closing K-12 Schools

(Olympia, WA)  --  Washington's education chief Randy Dorn says the State Supreme Court should consider closing K-through-12 schools.  Dorn says the high court should not rule out closing schools as a way to get the Legislature to provide adequate funding for education.  Dorn, who isn't running for re-election as superintendent of public instruction, filed a court brief yesterday that says the state Supreme Court needs to get serious about enforcing its ruling that the state was in violation of its constitution in underfunding public schools.  Last August, the Supreme Court began fining the state 100-thousand-dollars a day for not making enough progress on a plan to fully fund public education.
