(Renton, WA) -- The Renton Police Department is the first law-enforcement agency in Washington to use a drone for investigating crimes and accident scenes. A Portland-based company, Cardno, is assisting the department with interpreting the data the drone gathers. Spokesman Ron Dannenburg tells Q-13 that using the drone makes investigating much faster than the use of old-fashioned surveyor equipment. Currently, Renton police only use the drone for major crashes or crime scenes, but the department is considering its use during standoffs or tactical responses.
