(Albany, OR) -- Crews are slated to begin restoration today of an area of Albany that's had a series of tunnels dug by homeless people for shelter. Officials say the elaborate network of caves and tunnels was built along the Willamette River at Simpson Park. Albany police say the rainy season will result in the caves filling up when the river rises and likely bring down a number of trees. Police Lieutenant Alan Lynn tells KATU-TV it will likely cost more than two-thousand dollars to fill in the caves and remove dead trees.
