(Seattle, WA) -- A young humpback whale is dead, after becoming stranded on a beach in West Seattle. NOAA fisheries personnel say the 30-foot whale died around 10:30 yesterday morning after being beached for more than two hours. Bystanders reported around eight o'clock yesterday morning that the whale had washed ashore near the Fauntleroy ferry terminal, and NOAA personnel were assisted by volunteers in working throughout the morning to keep it alive. A NOAA scientist tells Q-13 they'll examine the whale to see if any diseases or contaminants contributed to the cause of death.
