(Burns, OR) -- Former Portland Police Chief Lawrence O'Dea is under indictment after being accused of shooting his friend during a hunting trip in April. The indictment accuses O'Dea of failing to use ordinary care when he shot and wounded Robert Dempsey with a bullet from a firearm. O'Dea retired as police chief during the investigation into the shooting. Investigators say the incident happened while the former chief was hunting in Harney County with six friends on April 21st.
