Richardson: OR Primary Should Be Earlier

(Salem, OR)  --  Oregon's Secretary of State says the 2020 primary election needs to come earlier in the year.  Dennis Richardson wrote Wednesday to Governor Kate Brown and legislative leaders, maintaining that an earlier presidential primary would give Oregon more clout.  He figures that by mid-May, voters are swept up in what he calls the "math and momentum" of already decided races in other states.  He noted that California and Washington are thinking about moving their primaries to March, and that Oregon should also make the move.  It could create a possible western bloc and help elevate Oregon in the national political scene.
