(Washington, DC) -- Oregon's unusual jury system may be tested in the U.S. Supreme Court. Only Oregon and Louisiana allow a defendant to be convicted on a 10-2 jury vote. There's a petition before the high court to examine that. Justices ordered eleven cases today that could be argued next year. The case directed at Louisiana's law was not one of them, but more cases are expected to ordered on Monday. Critics of the jury system say it deprives defendants of equal protection under the law.
