ACLU Of OR Against Amazon Facial Technology

(Washington, DC)  --  The ACLU of Oregon is among rights groups calling on Amazon to stop selling its facial recognition technology to the government.  The ACLU released a letter Tuesday from over two-dozen civil rights organizations to Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos.  The groups claim the Amazon technology called Recognition is "primed for abuse in the hands of governments."  The technology uses artificial intelligence to identify people and objects from images and videos.  Civil rights groups say the product poses a threat to people of color and immigrants, and that people should be free to walk down the street without being watched by the government.
