(Portland, OR) -- An FBI agent is being cleared of charges he lied about his role in the shooting death of a militia leader in Oregon. A federal jury in Portland Friday acquitted W. Joseph Astarita of making false statements and obstruction of justice. He was the only federal agent charged in connection with the killing of Robert LaVoy Finicum during the 41-day takeover at the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in 2016. Astarita was accused of lying to authorities when he denied firing the shots that killed Finicum in a confrontation with agents.
