Man Arrested For Threatening To Bomb Apartment With Gay Residents

(Portland, OR)  --  A 47-year-old man is facing charges after allegedly threatening to blow up an apartment building housing a large gay population.  Police arrested Scott Wayne Smith Monday for the incident at Hopewell Apartments in southwest Portland.  The apartment building houses people living with HIV and AIDS.  Police say a resident was sitting on the building's front steps with a friend when Smith walked up and asked for a cigarette.  When they said no, Smith allegedly got angry and began yelling homophobic slurs and saying he was going to kill them.  Residents say they've had similar problems with Smith in the past.
