Staff Shortage Prompts OHSU To Suspend Heart Transplant Program

(Portland, OR)  --  Oregon's only heart transplant program is suspended due to a shortage of doctors.  Oregon Health and Science University announced yesterday that at least three cardiologists are gone or planning to leave.  The facility will not take on any new transplant patients or accept any donor hearts for 14 days. An OHSU spokeswoman told the Oregonian that they have enough staff to follow up on recent transplant patients.  She says the next couple of weeks will see an effort to recruit new specialists to run the program.
