(Seattle, WA) -- Scientists are urging members of an orca task force to focus on increasing salmon populations. Researchers sent a letter to the Washington state task force and Governor Jay Inslee yesterday encouraging them to prioritize the issue of dwindling salmon populations. The southern resident killer whale population is critically endangered due in part to a diminishing population of Chinook salmon, which serves as their primary food source. Researchers say the task force should increase spill levels at dams on the Columbia and Snake rivers, eventually removing the Snake River dams completely.
