Mayor Wheeler Announces Ordinance Aimed At Preventing Protest Violence

(Portland, OR)  --  Mayor Ted Wheeler is introducing a new city ordinance aimed at cutting down violent protests on city streets.  Wheeler announced the ordinance in a press conference last night with Portland Police Chief Danielle Outlaw.  The new ordinance requires protesters to have a reasonable, content-neutral time, place and manner regulations for any demonstration held within city limits.  The ordinance also allows authorities to impose weapons restrictions during certain times and in certain areas.  The announcement follows a violent protest hosted by alt-right group Patriot Prayer over the weekend.
