State Unveils $1 Billion Plan For Passenger Trains

(Portland, OR)  --  A one-billion dollar plan would add passenger trains between Portland and Eugene.  State officials released a draft proposal Friday that would increase Amtrak service to give commuters reliable and convenient transportation options.  The plan comes after six years of study that shows the Willamette Valley is projected to grow by 27 percent by 2035.  Officials also hope the plan could reduce congestion on Interstate 5 and reduce carbon emissions for the state of Oregon.
