(Salem, OR) -- Oregon's hazelnut harvest isn't all it was cracked up to be. Growers had expected a bumper crop this year, but it's shaking out differently. The Capital Press reports on industry numbers that show a 48-thousand-ton harvest is shaping up, missing predictions by some four-thousand tons. A Newburg packer says it's not clear why the harvest fell short, but he suspects it may be due to underperformance of a new nut variety.
