(Salem, OR) -- Oregon gun owners may be required to lock up their firearms under a proposed ballot initiative. Backers of Initiative Petition 40 need about 112-thousand signatures to put the proposal to a vote. If it is passed, gun owners would be held liable for crimes committed with a gun stolen from them if that weapon was not properly stored in their homes. Gun owners would have to secure their weapons with either tamper-proof locked boxes or trigger locks.
