Portland Attorney Trying to Stop Execution

Gary Haugen is scheduled to die August 16^th, the State's first execution in 14 years. A Portland attorney is trying to prevent that. Jeffrey Ellis with the Oregon Capital Resource Center alleges that Haugen should not have been allowed to fire his attorneys during a hearing in Marion County. Ellis says there is evidence that Haugen is incompetent to be executed.
